From Baxter State Park's Facebook page: Good news for hikers!! The Katahdin Sheep is a newly developed, wool-less, easy care, breed used for meat production. Between the two of us, we have spent many days and nights in Baxter State Park over the years … A new trail segment has been opened, which, before reaching the rock slide, will diverge to the northwest, making a traversing ascent before switchbacking along the rib that is west of the slide. The beauty of Katahdin does, of course, make it a very popular destination.
