I normally always see people using SKs with mage DS in like fortress mech to do the same thing. I didn't realize how good this zone was until I was recently leveling and grouped with a guy who dragged me out here. See the New Player FAQ for more detailed information. Sadly neither zone is a hot zone. There is a big black stone in the bottom right corner of the zone. This is a picture of the merc window. It is highly recommended that you do this. You essentially get all the levels while doing things you would do anyway. Multiple mercs with heals, buffs, and DPS and you can soar through here. There are 2 nameds plus a named treant you can easily access if no one else is killing them. That spot is, like, the ideal afk spot. That's all I have for now folks. DO NOT USE FOLLOW HERE. Dulak's Harbor (35-43)(PoK>Gulf of Gunthak>Dulak's) - You can go higher than this by killing cultists and stuff in the tunnels of the zone, but I think the best thing about this place is the mob density for lower levels. You can hire a Mercenary at any Mercenary Liaison. The zone is very well spaced. THIS GUIDE ASSUMES YOU ARE PAY TO PLAY. I'd suggest even if you go this method, you still use MQ2 with afk tools to answer tells while you are away. They will be indifferent to you to start. 46-67 Veksar (PoK>Firiona Vie>Lake of Ill Omen>Veksar) - If you're a paladin, you really should consider living here through these levels, as most everything is undead. With hundreds and hundreds of zones to choose from, and classes with wildly different abilities and skills, there is no perfect way to level. HEROIC ADVENTURES BEGIN AKA THE MOST REPETITIVE THING TO DO IN A GAME THAT IS ALREADY REPETITIVE ENOUGH(75-110)(BOX/GROUP REQUIRED): You can begin doing HAs at 75 IF YOU BOX OR HAVE A GROUP (Yes some classes can solo them, but thats the exception rather than the rule and requires a lot of know how). Resplendent Temple is awful in my opinion, with it being nearly impossible to pull singles, and Pillars of Alra is hard to get to (you have to run through a lot of angry Alarins who can see invis in Resplendent Temple) and easy to get yourself killed in, for much the same reason. After that you need to go back to the bottom right side of the map and start killing nobles and highborn. WARNING: 'Hatching a Plan' mission next to PoK standalone bank has been nerfed into uselessness. Everquest AFK Leveling Missions. The nameds drop pretty sick gear and hit WAY easier than the ones in the Nightmare zones. Start off killing drakes, snakes, and spiders. This place isn't bad for everyone else in general and is much easier to get to than Ashengate, so it might be a good alternative. Once level 4-5, go over the bridge to the north and kill young pumas, bears, and more drakes. The left center side of the zone has a lot of undead frogloks (who hit very very hard), zombies, and specters to kill. Abstruse armor is very serviceable. There is a sparkly pad to his left, which if you step on and wait will let you teleport to PoHate) - I dislike this place solo. Lots of undead for your friendly neighborhood paladins as well. Find Tyrinam and take the Reducing the Threat - Worgs quest. At 40 move into the second courtyard area and keep clearing northward. If you have a reliable interrupt though, pull like a madman and just prioritize those. They tank for you, heal for you, or dps for you. Fewer mobs for AA/Exp grinding but still very nice and slightly easier for a small group. The merc trio can easily handle content to level 80 with you solidly playing your main toon (and dragging along the other two characters). The only issue there is you need to be capable of farming Remnants of Tranquility from TBM missions and HAs. More of the same, except a larger portion of the zone is friendly. Loping Plains(75-80)(PoK>Steamfont Mountains>Loping Plains) - At 75 come here and head around past Bloodmoon Keep. If you're a returning player you can find Mercenary Liaison's in PoK. The orcs hit a little harder and stun more and as you push back, there are higher level drakkin. At 20, open your map and begin trekking out toward the Stone Hive zone line. You can pull 3-4 at a time easily and pretty quickly kill them all, moving out toward the docked ships to get higher level guys. Just keep in mind that kills here will feel pretty slow since the giants have enormous HP pools and half the mobs have some form of healing ability. Everything has changed with the Seeds of Destruction expansion. If you went to another zone first and are coming here after 55, then just zone in by dropping into the big hole and coming up at the very back of the zone. Those are raid mobs and will have mechanics you won't be able to deal with even if you could fight them. Dive to the bottom and click the big rock. This is Tier 4 for Veil so things hit hard, but not that hard. In both places, just clear the zone. There are two main camps that youll use. I strongly recommend you choose a guide from this list though as these will be the guides I will continue to roll out updates to as time goes on. At 65 I like to head up to the second levels and kill the higher level guys there. Also during cooldowns they will use agro reducing abilities. They hit like Mack trucks but aren't very durable. If you're geared up or grouped, kill iksar golems as well. I honestly think it's kinda trash because either you're killing "relatively weak" classified mobs or the creatures just have too many HP, but from 30-35 it's ok. Since I see a lot of people asking where do I level or is this a good spot for leveling at X, I thought I would jot down this leveling guide. Frontier Mountain (BEST AREA FOR 100-108) - The giant fort has one named who drops a ring that is pretty in demand. Kill everything. Kill these guys, turning in the quests as you finish them and then getting them again, until 75. The very best stuff is random world drops from Empires of Kunark mobs, with nameds dropping them more frequently. From PoK>Gulf of Gunthak>Dulak's Harbor, Board the ship Stormwave or talk to the teleporter guy if it's all broken>Dead Hills. Start in the tunnels and then work your way through the area around the ghoul assassin. The mobs have varying levels of HP, but don't hit that hard in comparison to even other TDS content. Leveling/Setup This guide covers zones up to Omens of War. Burn: Your merc will focus primarily on damage, always assisting the main assist. At 12, all start killing gnolls or skeletal ogres. Korascian Warrens(82-87)(PoK>Talk to Herald of Druzzil Ro to TP to Plane of Time>Walk around the pillar and click on glowy portal to The Void>Toskirakk>Korascian Warrens) - I used to enjoy leveling here quite a bit. Unless you're 4 boxing or uber twinked, killing these will take some time, but about 3 kills will take you from 20 to 21. A: Your merc will Dismiss himself. Paladins can start swarming around 83 with impunity and shredding through these guys to about 85. Reactive: Your merc will react better depending on the situation. A NOTE ON MERCENARIES AT 85: At 85, to assist players utilizing a Heroic Character (a character which is automatically leveled to 85 for you and given subpar but serviceable gear, a mount, and other goodies. You can stay here until you ding lvl 83. Don't ask me for how you do each HA. When you suspend your mercenary the button will change to Unsuspend. Just be kind and patient. Wall of Slaughter has repop time of 10 minutes and 40 seconds. Murder the Rallosians, crystal golems, and frogs. You can get a little more life out of the zone by acquiring one of the temporary keys that let you teleport up to Grieg's spawn point. Their levels and abilities will scale appropriately and they will think and act for themselves with limited player guidance. I can't think of many places where the time taken to get there and get setup to afk xp wouldn't have been better spent just killing or questing for regular xp then logging out. While I didnt test this strategy in The Bloodfields, I think that zone also has a fast respawn rate of 10 minutes and 40 seconds, so this strategy should also work there if you can find a similar camp. Here is a quick run down of everything. Moving on, on the right hand side it will show you his Race, Type, Confidence and Proficiency. As someone who is just coming back on the test server, I am going to use the hell out of this! You get to experience every bit of content across 110 levels, hundreds of zones, and 24 expansions. Lots of nameds spawn here, so be careful if you don't have a good group or a good box team. I will add something in about him. Depending on your classes ability to swarm pull, these zones gain a lot of extra life for swarm pulls for SKs and the like. The respawn rate is also ludicrously high. In the second city, kill Doomfire mobs until 70. Once you get going quickly with the HAs from Gribble, you can throw in some of the HAs from Skulk. Just pick that one and level there. Never a good idea to go fully afk. The Call of the Forsaken expansion introduced mercenary equipment, gear you can put on your mercenary . Pretty much every single thing in The Grounds wants to eat your face, so there is less confusion and thus it's more popular. Head through the city in the mountain area toward Blightfire Moors. In other words that means all those levels that you can't find groups, you can use him for. I will edit that stuff in. Kill lots of rotdogs and snakes. At first, just wait. These are also really nice for Rangers to headshot since they are rootable and don't summon. Coming from The Mines, start killing gnolls until 12. Best thing though are the nameds. There are plenty of other sets from House of Thule and Veil of Alaris that can be had relatively cheaply, so do your research and check them out. With a group you can pull them pretty easily and have access to a HUGE number of mobs. It's Hills of Shade all over again. Grouping is still one of the best ways to get experience, but the mercs help you when you can't find a group. From where you zone in, drop down and kill everything in and around that structure that DOES NOT SAY "WOULD TAKE AN ARMY TO DEFEAT". Not really a particular place to camp in the zone, though the area outside with the warbeasts or over on the side of Rubek Oseka would be ok (provided you can deal with underwater combat). At 82 or straight away if you have a group, head down through the mansion to the basement area. The north and east pathways are the ones to focus on. The goal is to get the three Clean Up the Farm quests from Siggik at the gnome camp near the Steamfont zoneline. Decent loot drops from the nameds in each zone as well, as well as Tier 2 armor tokens. Next Last. For everyone else, exp kinda tapers off around 82. The easiest armor sets to get will probably be the sets from Hardcore Heritage. Just get access to the second of his HAs, Artifacts of Great Importance. 28-35 Kaesora(PoK>Field of Bones>Kaesora) - I think this is a pretty great zone to get a few levels in. EQ progression has a nice zone by zone guide up to OoW expansion, recommended level for the zone with a rating for the quality of exp there and best of all a map highlighting the mob levels in different areas of the zone usually with a star showing best hunting spots. The Rogue merc does melee damage where as the Wizard merc will nuke, all pretty basic. Just be careful as everything has a huge aggro range and the pathing can mess your world up. Nameds here hit like runaway freight trains though. A FABLED VERSION OF THE NAMED WILL EVENTUALLY APPEAR AND ROFLSTOMP YOU SINCE HE WILL BE AROUND LEVEL 75. Click here for more information. Make sure that the Tank Merc has been assigned the role of Main Tank. It is easy to get overwhelmed at lower levels, especially with the ratmen who frequent the middle of the zone. I forget about that guy. Up to about level 35 a red con gave me 10%-25% XP. From level 1-100 and from Luclin to Call of the Forsaken, all AA's but crafting are given to you for free. In order to hire a mercenary meet at least one of the following conditions: Own the Age of Discovery expansion (having purchased when it was a new release). I recommend you donate to him for his grinding guides as well. Also keep in mind that if you hire a mercenary from a female Mercenary Liaison then your mercenary will be a female.
